Answers to the questions you are already asking
Lose the weight you set out to lose and keep the muscle that keeps you strong. Start with the question on your mind.
-
How much muscle you really lose
The body-scan results from the semaglutide and tirzepatide trials, read properly: how much of the weight was lean mass, what that number includes and what it means for your body.

Protein when you are barely hungry
Your protein target worked out for your weight, then turned into small portions you can finish on a low-appetite day.

Latest guides
- Does Ozempic cause muscle loss? What the STEP 1 scans showed
Semaglutide lowers lean mass along with fat, as any large weight loss does. In the STEP 1 body-scan substudy (n = 140, DXA), lean mass made up about 40% of the tissue lost, though lean mass includes water and organs, not only muscle. If you are worried, ask your prescriber about strength training and protein.
- How much protein should you eat on a GLP-1?
A 2025 advisory from four US nutrition and obesity societies says targets of 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram a day have been proposed during active weight loss, or a flat 80 to 120 grams. If you have kidney disease, ask your clinician first; otherwise use that range and split it across meals.
Protein in portions you can finish
Most protein advice assumes a normal appetite. On a GLP-1, a full plate can feel impossible. Our food guides rank foods by grams of protein per small portion and per 100 calories, so every bite you manage does the most work for your muscles.
Strength training without a gym habit
Resistance training is the other half of keeping muscle. Our short plans run on bodyweight, bands or dumbbells, tell you exactly when to add weight and include a lighter version for weeks when side effects drain your energy.
How we research
- Primary sources in every guide. Trial papers, FDA and EMA drug labels and guidelines such as the 2025 joint nutrition advisory, linked in the sentence that uses them.
- Real numbers. Every trial result comes with how many people were measured and how, as in the body-scan substudies of STEP 1 and SURMOUNT-1.
- A date on every page. You see when each guide was published and updated, and when each source was checked.

Common questions
Do GLP-1 medicines cause muscle loss?
Part of the weight people lose on these medicines is lean mass, as body scans in the main semaglutide and tirzepatide trials showed. Lean mass on a DXA scan includes muscle, water and organs, so the muscle share is smaller than the headline number. Enough protein and regular strength training are the two levers that protect it.
How much protein should I eat on a GLP-1?
A joint advisory from four nutrition and obesity societies (May 2025) puts adequate protein and strength training at the top of the list for keeping lean mass. Our protein guide turns that into grams a day for your body weight and shows the arithmetic.
Does this site cover the GLP-1 pills?
Yes. Oral semaglutide (the Wegovy pill and Rybelsus) is taken on an empty stomach with a wait before eating, which changes how you fit in a protein breakfast. Foundayo has its own label rules. Our guides compare them straight from the labels.
Who writes the guides?
